Village Craft Shop

The Village Crafts Shop is part of Mshiri Vocational Training School and is stocked with cards, jewellery, cloth and carvings prepared by the School's students.

Mshiri Vocational Training School runs three courses as well as lessons in maths and English.

Brighton, known as Mariki, the Principal of the VTC since its opening in 1999, very sadly died in January 2011.




Peter Mbowe

Peter Mbowe

Peter is the Deputy Principal and is now Acting Principal following Mariki's death. Peter also runs the carpentry training course.

Rose Mtui

Rose Mtui

Rose was trained by Susan Lowe, our first volunteer from British Executive Service Overseas (now part of VSO), and specialises in tie and dye techniques and batik.

Angela is a trained tailor and teaches the students on the two-year tailoring course.

Regina Mlay

Regina, known as Mama Mlay, manages and runs Village Crafts, the shop and café at Marangu Mtoni that sells craft items from the school.

Janeti Massawe

Janeti Massawe

Janeti is the school cook. She is a young widow with three small children so cooking the school lunch fits in with her family commitments.


Gilbert Mremi

Gilbert Mremi

Gilbert runs the carpentry workshop which is situated in the grounds of Mshiri Vocational Training School and from which a share of the profits helps run the school.
