Primary School Renovation and Support
All primary schools in this part of rural Tanzania were built by the local community with little or no money available for the completion of the buildings or for any maintenance. Consequently primary schools frequently have breeze block walls with holes left for the windows and doors, an earth floor and a corrugated iron roof.
Renovation work typically includes:
- laying concrete floors
- replacing and repairing corrugated iron roofs
- putting in ceilings, windows and doors
- repairing cracks, plastering and whitewashing walls
- making tables, benches and blackboards
The result is that the schools become bright, comfortable places where learning is stimulated. There are medical benefits too, as jiggas - little fleas that live in earth floors - are no longer able to enter the children's skin and debilitate them.
The charity has now renovated the following primary schools: Mauo, Mshiri, Ashira, Samanga, Palangeny, Lyasomboro, Mbahe, Matala and Kochakindo. Help with building has also been given to Lyakirimu, Nganyeni, Masia Marangu, Masia Mamba, Mbahe, Marimeni, Mseroe, Maande, Kotela and Nkweseko schools.

As well as renovating schools the charity has provided textbooks and other teaching materials. All our work has made a real difference to the schools we have been able to renovate.
